Descamp is a fictional story about a small island in the South of the Netherlands, which has a population of 87 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2015), and is known for its symbol: a shell with 3 holes. This symbol plays a large role in the people’s daily lives, as can be seen in many applications and items, and the shell also plays a large role at the yearly celebration. This project enabled me to investigate the role of cultural and religious symbols in society, as well as the possible role a designer might play in creating new symbols.
